The Old Penitentiary

DSC_2318 DSC_2364 DSC_2277 DSC_2299 DSC_2348Some time ago, I got to visit the Old Penitentiary, Boise Idahos old prison. It was a fascinating place, and the guides with all their stories were excellent. The prison opened in 1872 and closed its doors in 1973. If youre ever in Boise (Idaho, USA) I strongly recommend that you go and check this fascinating place out…and take a guided tour, our tour guide grew up on the site as a child as his dad was a warden, so he had so much insider knowledge. Also dont forget to see the isolation cells – scary stuff!! I think im going to try running HDR on some of this single photos – watch out for that post!!

  1. I so enjoy seeing images from abandoned prisons. If you ever get to Pennsylvania, you should visit Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia. I haven’t been there yet, but have seen images and its an amazing place!

  2. Great shots – I did the Alcatraz tour when I was in S.F. – These places are great and filled with so much history. I have had a good measure of success with single shot HDR (with Photoshop) – Mostly I use the HDR/effect as a layer to blend in (using Soft Light Blend mode) on top of the regular shot – adjusting the fill % as needed to get the effect I desire. Good luck!

      • Check out my post I’ll put up tomorrow to see exactly the results of my suggestion – Tilted: “In heaven there is no beer”
Glad to help – hope it works for you!
