In San Francisco I visited Grace Cathedral. This is a beautiful building, but the main reason I wanted to go and see Grace Cathedral was because they have a replica of Lorenzo Ghilberti’s bronze doors, which he did for the Baptistery of Florence Cathedral. When Michelangelo saw them, he named the doors the “Gates of Paradise”.  It took Ghiberti 21 years to complete these doors, which he completed in 1452. The Gates of Paradise show in relief, scenes from the Bible. Being far from Florence, it was great seeing a replica of the famous doors and seeing all the beautiful details up close. If you are interested in art history and ever in San Francisco, then visiting the doors of Grace Cathedral is a must…unless you can go to Florence and see the real thing!!
